A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTIST
First and foremost, I would like to say that I have no real philosophical, scholarly, high-sounding, pretentious, highfalutin, or even educated words of wisdom about my art.
I simply like to make art…
At this point my favorite subjects seem to be birds, gardens, tromp l’oiel, and La Purisima Mission and other familiar landscapes.
Creating art has always been and will always be a big part of my life.
No single artist has influenced me. I am awe of the absolute genius of Leonardo Da Vinci. Then there are of course Rembrandt, Van Gogh and those amazing Dutch artists of the 17th century with their detailed paintings of floral still life complete with birds nests with eggs and tiny insects. Botanical artists, and Victorian era watercolorists. Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran who so wondrously showed us the idealized natural wonders of the unspoiled early American landscape. I have always been attracted to Trompe l’Oiel with it’s ability to fool the viewer. And then there are the so-called “Illustrators” whose art is also fine art: Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell, and Arthur Rackham. I also love wonderful creativity of Walt Disney, as well as Beatrix Potter and so many children’s book illustrators.
I’m sure I forgot some…
And then of course there are all of the talented new artists I learn about each day…
